Troy Perry

My name is Troy Perry. I was born in Blackville, SC, on September 26, 1963. In 1967, my family and I moved to Brooklyn, NY, where we’ve lived ever since. Shortly after our arrival, I started school, where I quickly excelled in writing and art. These became my proudest achievements, and I eagerly shared them with my family and anyone else who was willing to look or listen.

What I didn’t realize at the time was that this early curiosity would eventually lead to a deep interest in photography and exploring distant places full of color and life, where everything seemed to catch my eye. I constantly found myself asking, “Look at this!” It became increasingly difficult not to see beauty everywhere I went.

My journey took a significant turn when I came to Queensborough Community College 29 years ago and met Professor Jules Allen. His work unknowingly fueled my growing passion for photography. This very event, right here at QCC, is happening thanks to the Gallery Director, Mr. Faustino. He encouraged me to keep capturing the beauty I see in the world and insisted I share my photographs by displaying them in his gallery. For his support, I will be eternally grateful.

So today, I invite you all to join me in this simple request: “Look at this.”
